Elections

The county auditor is an elected officer and serves a four year term.  The county auditor has a diverse range of duties and responsibilities involving specific statutory functions and county financial administration.  The primary statutory responsibilities are:  recording, licensing, elections/voter registration, and county financial audit/administration.

The Elections section is responsible for administering elections in the county for all federal, state, county, municipal, and special districts.  Elections typically occur four times per year in February, March, August, and November.  In conjunction with administering elections, this section is responsible for voter registration and file updates for address changes or redistricting.  Stevens Count is a vote-by-mail county and all eligible voters automatically receive a ballot in the mail for elections corresponding to their official residence.

  Financial Audit/Administration  
 

The Auditorís Office is responsible to provide financial, accounting, auditing, payroll, and account payable services for county departments and agencies.  They prepare the Countyís Annual Report, Preliminary Budget, and facilitate the State Auditorís Office audit each year.

  The Auditorís Office is an agent of the Washington State Department of Licensing.  This responsibility includes:  sale of motor vehicle and vessel licenses, collection of license fees, transfer of vehicle and vessels from one owner to another, title changes to add or delete a legal owner other then the registered owner, collection of load fees on trucks, and other transactions involving motor vehicles and vessels.

The Recording section is responsible for recording real estate documents, liens, military discharges, maps, and surveys.  They also issue marriage licenses.  The Auditorís Office is prohibited from giving or offering legal advice and the responsibility for properly preparing an instrument, plat, survey, and other documents is that of the document preparer.
